WOMAD New Zealand have just released the festival’s 2019 day schedule, detailing which acts are performing each day.
The great thing about WOMAD is that many of the acts perform twice, making it way easier to plan your WOMAD weekend.
Bands that are performing twice in 2019 include South London duo The Correspondents, as well as the Indian father/son trio Amjad Ali Khan, futuristic funk musician Baloji, the "Afro psychedelic" ensemble BCUC and the 78-year-old Amazonian Dona Onete.
There will also be double performances from Celtic group Jamie Smith’s Mabon, the celebrated hip-hop artist and daughter of Buena Vista Social Club’s Jesus Ramos - La Dame Blanche and the Afro-Mexican fusion group Las Cafeteras. As well as from Estonian duo Maarja Nuut & Ruum, Moroccan 'Guembri' master Maalem Hamid El Kasri, the "voodoo trance" trio My Baby and from the first professional female virtuoso of the Kora, Sona Jobarteh.
The award-winning collective Silkroad Road Ensemble, the Irish genre-defying accordion player Sharon Shannon Band, global Pop DJ Shantel & Bucovina Club Orkestar, traditional Greek group Rebetien and the 18-strong choir Taiwu Ancient Ballads Troupe will all play twice throughout the festival.
And representing from Aotearoa, Finn Andrews, Niko Ne Zna, Ria Hall and Teeks are scheduled for repeat performances over the three days.
Playing times will be released closer to the festival.
