By the end of 1999, up and coming British band Coldplay were being touted as the band to watch in 2000. A year later, their debut album Parachutes was named album of the year by Q magazine. In New Zealand the Ken Nelson-produced CD sold by the truckload. Coldplay performed at the Big Day Out in Auckland in January 2001, where National Radio's Kaye Glamuzina spoke to singer Chris Martin about producing a "fully realised masterpiece" at the age of 21, and the joys of vegemite...
