Taj Mahal came to fame back in the early sixties with a band formed with Ry Cooder called The Rising Sons. He's struck out on his own and has been making music ever since blending a multiplicity of derivative African styles, playing an assortment of musical instruments. He was in exuberant form when recorded performing at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.
In a city of singing legends, from Elvis Presley and Otis Redding to Al Green and Aretha Franklin, Memphis vocalist Susan Marshall proudly holds her own. She's lent her talents to the Afgan Wigs and Cat Power among others but she shines best with this group of Memphis pros at the Hi Tone Café in Memphis Tennessee.
