8:30 Window on the World

Our Window on the World tonight opens on what was known as Bar Beach in Lagos, Nigeria. The area was subject  to floods and coastal erosion but a massive shoreline protection and reclamation project has turned it into Eko Atlantic City - a thousand square kilometres of desirable private property. Eko Atlantic City is a private city that has its own private electricity, water supply and sewage system, and developers who aim  to make Lagos, the Dubai of Africa. There are doubts that Eko Atlantic City will  house any of the tens of thousands of former Bar Beach residents whose flimsy homes were bulldozed and burned in a sudden mass eviction ten years ago.
