Alzheimers is a major economic challenge to governments and health-care providers around the world, and will force some fundamental rethinking on how we care for sufferers. Few of us will escape the impact of Alzheimer's Disease. One in three - maybe even one in two of us - will then get dementia and forget almost everything we ever knew. And the lucky others? They will probably end up caring for someone with Alzheimer's, the most common form of dementia. In the first episode of the 3-part series, Solving Alzheimer's we explore how fear in some parts of the world is stigmatising those who have it, and denying help to those who need it. Patricia Lockwood is an American essayist and poet whose most recent volume of verse is Motherland Fatherland Homelandsexuals. Her memoir about her Catholic upbringing, Priestdaddy, charts a childhood under the influence of a larger-than-life father, who converted to Christian belief while serving on a nuclear submarine during the Cold War, after having watched The Exorcist multiple times. Having become a Lutheran pastor, and now with a family, he was accepted into the Roman Catholic church. He is, according to Lockwood, also a narcissist and manic depressive.

Tonight, a diverse collection of new Global music plus an interview with Welsh classically trained harpist Catrin Finch and Senegalese Kora player Seckou Keita who have just released their second collaboration called Soar, which has crossed over to a wider audience and seen the duo packing out venues through Europe and the UK and topping the Trans Global Music charts for months.
