John Mather, a retired farming couple in their seventies. In return for a $351,000 mortgage on their house, Blue Chip investments told them they would receive $10,000 a year in rentals from a new apartment in Auckland's St Martin's Lane.

The trouble is, when the Blue Chip companies went under, owing more than $80 million dollars, the Mathers' became liable for mortage payments on their home - which they thought was protected in a family trust - and their $10,000 a year income was turned into $3000 a month mortage interest payment.

The Mathers have now been told their property will be sold from under them to pay the debt.

The Young@Heart Chorus has been going for 26 years, but has recently been made famous by the documentary of the same name which is now playing throughout the country at the Film Festival; British documentary maker Stephen Walker travelled to Northhampton Massachusetts to film the group and make the movie. The movie has been hugely popular wherever it has screened - mostly receiving standing ovations, including in New Zealand where it's currently touring as part of the International Film Festival.
