Mark Kulansky has written Cod: A biography of the Fish that Changed the World; Salt: A World History; The Big Oyster: History on the Half Shell.

In his latest book, Food of a Younger Land, he's unearthed a treasure trove of recipes and eating traditions from the 1940s which paint a portrait of food in America before the golden arches, frozen food and massive supermarkets.

The book contains recipes, anecdotes, photos, evoking a bygone era where there was no such thing as fast food, frozen food, or supermarkets.
