Dr Gareth Rouch did a study on a large group of fathers from disadvantaged backgrounds about their priorities and how those had changed since becoming fathers.

He found that despite little support, most of the men were committed to turning their lives around to support the families.

Dr Rouch did the study as part of his PhD at Massey University school of psychology, and it was published by Victoria University's Institute of Policy Studies.
