The investigative writer, Nicky Hager has just released his latest book, Dirty Politics which he says exposes the dirty side of the political management. The book focuses on the internal communications between well known right-wing blogger, Cameron Slater, and a network of National Party figures, including some of the Prime Minister's own staff.

09:20 No alternatives for Christchurch families forced to live in sheds and garages

New research has revealed how dire the housing situation is in Christchurch for some families, with hundreds of people being forced to live in cold crowded and damp garages, sheds, caravans and containers.  

Te Puawaitanga Trust, which is a whanau ora health and social provider in the city has surveyed its clients on their housing situations, and found alarming increases in the number of people living in outbuildings and overcrowded conditions since the earthquakes.

Zimbabwean author NoViolet Bulawayo on her 2013 Man Booker prize short-listed debut novel 'We Need New Names', which also won the LA Times Book Award for First Fiction and the Hemingway Foundation/PEN Award in 2014. NoViolet is the first ever black African woman to be nominated for the Man Booker prize. She was born and raised in Zimbabwe and is the current Stegner Fellow at Stanford University in California. She is a guest at the 2014 Christchurch Readers and Writers Festival: The Stars Are Out Tonight: Friday 29 August, 7.30pm and We Need New Names: Saturday 30 August, 2pm.
