The family of Australian journalist Peter Greste, imprisoned in Egypt for over a year are pinning their hopes on a new legal avenue they hope will see him deported back to Australia.
09:20 Retired Christchurch Coroner, Richard McElrea on his two decades in the role
Richard McElrea recently retired after 21 years as the Christchurch Coroner. Over that time he has presided over hundreds of inquests, including the 2010 Fox Glacier plane crash which killed nine people, and the 2003 plane crash near at Christchurch airport, in which seven Crop and Food Staff, and a pilot died when their chartered plane crashed – the Piper Navajo Chieftain aircraft crashed near Christchurch Airport on June 6, 2003.

Ethan Sorrell of Avondale college has achieved the world's highest scores in the Cambridge exams for both A level psychology and biology. He was also first in New Zealand in his other two exams, A level chemistry and physics.

10:05 The mission to make New Zealand predator free by 2040
Professor Mick Clout of the University of Auckland is one of those spearheading the push to make New Zealand predator free by 2040. The Conservation Ecology Professor was recently awarded the 2014 Marsden Medal by the New Zealand Association of Scientists, and has chaired the Kakapo Recovery Group for the past 20 years.
He says the idea of a predator-free country may seem like an impossible task, but if everyone gets on board, and the work starts at the top of the country, it is do-able.

After announcing their hiatus in 2006, Sleater-Kinney are back with a new album, 'No Cities To Love'. The trio began as part of the Riot Girrrl scene in the Northwest US in the early 1990s. But the band quickly escaped any stigma or stereotype to become one of the best punk-infused indie bands of their era. Fortunately it is their era once again, and they haven’t missed a beat. In the interim, guitarist/singer Carrie Brownstein has made a name for herself acting in the TV comedy series Portlandia, while bandmates Corin Tucker and Janet Weiss have continued to make music with various artists. 'No Cities To Love' is being touted as one of the year’s best. Granted, its only January, but check back in December, I bet they’ll still be in the running.
