09:05 Restorative justice clogging up courts and causing big delays
Under a December 1st law change, all cases that result in a guilty plea, and where there is an identifiable victim must be adjourned and referred to restorative justice.
Lawyers and judges say this is clogging up courts, which now have to deal with double the number of appearances in such cases.
The problem is particularly bad in Cantebury, where The Law Society says Restorative Justice Services is so under resourced that every week it falls another 6 weeks behind.

A recently published article by Professor Garth Fletcher from Victoria's School of Psychology concludes that romantic love is a commitment device for motivating pair-bonding in humans.
The article, 'Pair-Bonding, Romantic Love and Evolution: The Curious Case of Homo Sapiens', has been published in the journal of the Association of Psychological Science.
It finds that romantic love is an adaptation, or a commitment device that facilitated long term pair-bonding, which helped advance the evolution of the high levels of social intelligence that characterise humans.
