New research by the Ministry for Vulnerable Children, Oranga Tamariki reveals much higher levels of harm to children in care than had been previously established. The just-released research looked at a sample of case notes, and used a broader definition of harm, to identify how many children in care were subjected to harm in 2015-16. 12 per cent of the sample group of nearly 700 had been subjected to either physical, emotional or sexual harm or neglect. Kathryn talks with Ministry CEO Gráinne Moss.

Three top nutrition academics, led by Professor Boyd Swinburn conducted a study which found that around two thirds of ads marketed to children contained unhealthy food. But the Advertising Standards Agency – which has since changed its code – disputes the research findings. Kathryn Ryan talks with Professor Swinburn and Hilary Souter of the ASA.
