Surgical mesh advocacy group, Mesh Down Under, is claiming a partial victory in its campaign against the harm caused by the medical devices. Government agencies including the Ministry of Health, ACC, the Health and Disability Commission and surgeons' groups have agreed  to work towards setting up an interim register, but no agreement was made about the campaigners' plea to temporarily stop the use of the medical devices all together, as was agreed to in England Wales and Ireland, last month. Patricia Sullivan is one of the co-founders of Mesh Down Under and Rose Wall  is the Health and Disability Commisions's Deputy Commissioner.

US singer songwriter, Suzanne Vega is in New Zealand to play 2 shows as part of her Anniversary Tour celebrating two of her early albums. It has been 30 years since Solitude Standing was released which featured Luka and Tom's Diner and 25 years since the album 99.9 F. Suzanne is in the studio to talk about her career, experimenting with music and she will also sing an A Cappella version of Tom's Diner. The shows take place on August 7th at the Bruce Mason Centre in Auckland and August 8th at the Wellington Opera House.

Peter Templeton has spent most of his life helping other people.  He started age ten clipping the Tuatapere sports field by hand.  Over sixty years later has just been recognised for his volunteering effort, with a community service award for all his work in the far south west.  He tells Lynn Freeman about conducting funerals single-handedly and helping the young ones get along in his favourite sport, wood chopping.
