The Whangarei District Council has announced an up to 30 percent rent rise for elderly in its 164 Whangarei pensioner flats. Tenants are concerned they won't be able to afford the increase and are disappointed at a lack of consultation. Sheryl Mai is the Whangarei District Mayor. Sandy Stavert and Ted Winsborough are affected council tenants.
