Restoring the Hauraki Gulf with mussels

From Nine To Noon, 9:26 am on 19 June 2018

A project to restore the mussel beds in the waters around Auckland could provide part of the answer to cleaning up the Hauraki Gulf. The gulf has been affected by sediment and nitrate runoff from farming and the growing developments around the city. Scientists involved with the group in Revive our Gulf have been laying mussel beds and monitoring the change in the water health. Andrew Jeffs from Auckland University says their work could be the key to rejuvenating the Gulf and making it safer for other fish.
