New research finds older migrants are meeting their health needs within their own ethnic groups, and are also benefiting wider communities' well-being through volunteering.

Associate Professor Valerie Wright-St Clair tells Kathryn Ryan how Auckland's rapidly diversifying population prompted AUT's Centre for Active Ageing to conduct this study into wellness among older Chinese, Indian and Korean immigrants, challenging a common perception older migrants are a burden to society.

The study recommends supporting older immigrants' help networks, rather than advocating for mainstream community, health and social services.
