Charley Pride is a superstar of country music - an improbable destiny given his humble beginnings as a sharecropper's son on a cotton farm in Mississippi. His unique journey to the top of the music charts includes a detour through the world of Negro league and semi-pro baseball as well as many long years labouring in a smelter. But with perseverance and undeniable musical talent, he managed to establish an amazing legacy of hit singles and tens of millions in record sales. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2000. His greatest hits album "40 Years Of Pride" has just been released. He'll also be touring NZ in November.
