Paul Whelan is a successful opera singer, and his father Don Whelan is a veteran Christchurch music teacher and choir master. Paul is in New Zealand to play the role of Daland in New Zealand Opera's production of Wagner's The Flying Dutchman, (opening in Wellington on 14 September and in Auckland on 5 October).
