Free play at school
Two years ago, Swanson Primary School in West Auckland became part of an AUT and Otago University study aimed at encouraging play and increasing physical activity. The children there are allowed to climb trees, Bullrush is no longer outlawed and pupils are allowed to ride their bikes and skateboards in school grounds. Bruce McLachlan is the Principal of Swanson Primary School in West Auckland; and Associate Professor Rachael Taylor from Otago University is the principal investigator for the PLAY study.
