Marty Duda's artist of the week - T. Rex

From Nine To Noon, 11:08 am on 14 May 2014

Marty Duda reviews two early T. Rex early albums which have just been reissued. Led by Marc Bolan, T. Rex helped usher in the era of glam rock in the UK in the early 1970s with singles like Jeepster, Metal Guru, Telegram Sam and their international hit Get It On. T Rex began as Tyrannosaurus Rex in 1968 when Bolan teamed up with Steve Peregrin Took. The duo performed and recorded regularly around England, at the height of the hippie movement, often sounding like Donovan. By 1970 Took was out and Mickey Finn was in, the name was shortened to T. Rex and Bolan ushered in the glam era with the single Ride A White Swan. For a while, Marc Bolan was the biggest pop star in England… that was until Ziggy Stardust came along.
