Dunedin has finally got out of the doldrums economically – it’s growing for the first time in a decade and is in the grip of a housing boom.

Southland hopes to follow suit. The headline goal of its first major redevelopment strategy is to attract 10,000 more people to settle in the province.

Meanwhile, Central Otago and Queenstown have the opposite problem... too many people.
