London-based Isabel Hilton is the editor of ChinaDialogue, the world's first fully bilingual website devoted to the environment. Isabel has an MA in Chinese from Edinburgh University, where she has also undertaken postgraduate work on 20th century Chinese literature, and scholarships from the Peking Languages Institute and Fudan University in Shanghai.

Author and documentary maker Bryan Bruce is the creator of the TVNZ series The Investigator. His new book, Hard Cases (Random House, ISBN 978-1-86941-977-6), explores some of New Zealand's most baffling murder cases, and how the police and court systems operate in this country.

9.45 Kerry Ann Lee

The family of artist and fanzine creator/distributor Kerry Ann Lee ran the Gold Coin Caf' in Willis Street during the early 1980s, where the backroom storage cupboard served as her first studio. Her exhibition of collages, paper-cuttings, and three-dimensional dioramas, Home Made: Picturing Chinese Settlement in New Zealand, runs at Wellington's Toi Poneke Gallery during the month of the Ghost Festival or 'Chinese Halloween' on 15 August, the time when spirits of the dead visit the living. She will give a talk at the gallery from 6:00pm on 14 August.

William Pike was one of two climbers hit by the eruption blast on the slopes of Mt Ruapehu on 25 September 2007. He tells his story in Every Day's a Good Day (Penguin, ISBN: 978-0-14-330419-7). Dr John Bonning is a Specialist Emergency Physician at Waikato Hospital, who helped save his life.
