Matt Frei has been the BBC's Washington correspondent since 2002, and has served as BBC's Asia correspondent based in Singapore and Hong Kong. From 1992 to 1996 he was BBC Southern Europe correspondent in Rome, from where he covered events in Bosnia, North Africa and the Mafia. His latest book, Only in America (Harper Perennial, ISBN: 978-0-00-724893-3), looks at Washington D.C, "the Rome of the 21st century".

Dr David Park is the CEO of the Geospatial Research Centre, within the NZ ICT Innovation Institute at the University of Canterbury. He left the University of Nottingham's internationally renowned Institute of Engineering Surveying and Space Geodesy in 2006 and moved to Christchurch to establish the Geospatial Research Centre with five other scientists.

Jasvinder Sanghera ran away from her home in the British town of Derby at the age of 15 after being shown a photograph of a man she had never met and told he was to be her husband. She is co-founder and director of Karma Nirvana, a community-based project that supports South Asian women, men and children affected by domestic violence and honour-based crimes. Her memoir, Shame (Hodder & Stoughton, ISBN: 978-0-340-92462-4), was published in 2007, and she tells the stories of other survivors in her new book, Daughters of Shame (Hodder & Stoughton, ISBN: 978-0-340-97802-3).

Isaac Julien is a British installation artist and maker of feature films and documentaries, including Young Soul Rebels (1991), BaadAsssss Cinema (2006), and Derek (2008). His first purely photographic series, Te Tonga Tuturu / True South (Apparatus) 2008, is the result of a journey through the Urewera Ranges and Port Waikato during his recent residency at Two Rooms Gallery in Auckland. The gallery will exhibit the work (from 5 March to 11 April) during Auckland Festival 2009 (5 -22 March), along with a two-screen installation, Dungeness (2008), featuring rare film footage of the late filmmaker Derek Jarman.

Vikas Swarup is a member of the Indian Foreign Service. His debut novel, Q&A, has been an international best-seller and translated into 35 languages. It has recently been republished as Slumdog Millionaire (Black Swan, ISBN: 978-0-552-77535-9), in the wake of the Oscar-winning film adaptation.
10:30 Roberto Fonseca
Cuban musician Roberto Fonseca succeeded the legendary Ruben Gonzalez as pianist for the Buena Vista Social Club, and has toured the world with Cuban greats Omara Portuondo and Ibrahim Ferrer. His most recent album, Zamazu (Enja Records), was hailed as "one of the classiest world-jazz albums of the year" by The Guardian. Roberto plays one New Zealand concert with his quintet, on Saturday 7 March, as part of the Wellington Jazz Festival (5-8 March).

Dave Brown is artistic director of Adelaide-based Patch Theatre Company. He has directed 75 productions for and by young people and written 17 produced works for young audiences. Patch Theatre Company was established in 1972 to produce quality theatre for children and young people. Since then, it has produced 100 new works and performed to 1.5 million children and their families around the world. On 14 March, Patch Theatre will present their production, Pigs, Bears and Billy Goats Gruff, at the Capital ENational Arts Festival in Wellington (7-21 March).

Kate De Goldi will discuss the work of American writer Paul Fleischman, a protege of Charlotte Zolotow, and son of children's book writer Sid Fleischman.
