Geoff Colvin is a senior editor at large for Fortune magazine, and author of the 2008 book, Talent is Overrated: What Really Separates World-Class Performers from Everybody Else. His new book is Humans Are Underrated: What High Achievers Know That Brilliant Machines Never Will (Nicholas Brealey Publishing).

 

 

 

 

8:45 Patrice Rosengrave: salmon and sperm

Dr Patrice Rosengrave is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Otago, based in Christchurch, and affiliated to the Centre for Reproduction and Genomics. She is working with Professor Neil Gemmell on a project studying Chinook salmon to examine the female's role in manipulating external fertilisation.

Emmy- and BAFTA-winning producer Piv Bernth is Head of Drama at Denmark's leading public broadcaster, DR (Danish Broadcasting Corporation). She was the creative force behind the groundbreaking Scandinavian noir series The Killing, and executive produced the subsequent series The Bridge. As Head of Drama at DR since 2012, she has greenlit political series Borgen, and family drama The Legacy. She visited New Zealand as a key panellist at the 2015 Co-production Summit presented by WIFT NZ.

Craig Smith is a Queenstown-based musician and author whose song, The Wonky Donkey, was turned into a book with CD in 2009, and was a best-seller in New Zealand, and around the world. He was the first artist in any genre to have the top selling single on iTunes in both New Zealand and Australia at the same time, and his book sales total nearly a million copies worldwide. Over the last eight years, he has performed in almost every New Zealand town with a primary school, and was invited to perform at the Glastonbury Music Festival in the UK in June. His new book-with-CD project, Eating (Craig Smith), illustrated by Scott Tulloch, was published last month.

 

11:05 Bronwyn Labrum: 1950s and 60s New Zealand

Bronwyn Labrum is an associate professor in the School of Design at Massey University, and a former Curator of History and Textiles at Te Papa. Her new book is a history told through objects and images, Real Modern: Everyday New Zealand in the 1950s and 1960s (Te Papa Press). She will talk about the book at one of the many NZ Bookshop Day events throughout the country on 31 October, at  Millwood Gallery in Wellington from 2:00pm.

Painter, poet, curator and writer Gregory O'Brien is the author of a number of books; his latest is See What I Can See: New Zealand Photography for the Young and Curious (Auckland University Press). He will discuss a new collection of poetry from Peter Bland, Expecting Miracles (Steele Roberts), and his Collected Poems 1956-2011 (Steele Roberts).
