Bill Phillips is a fellow of the National Institute of Standards and Technology, Distinguished Professor at University of Maryland, fellow of the Joint Quantum Institute, and joint winner of the 1997 Nobel Prize for work on the laser cooling of atoms.
He will visit New Zealand as part of global celebrations for the 2015 International Year of Light, delivering the public lecture, Einstein, Time and Light, attending the KOALA and IONS conferences, and teaching at the ANZSUP summer school.
He talks to Kim Hill about his work, and explains why very cold is a very good thing at the quantum level.
