Steven Rood - Terror in the Philippines
Philippines president Rodrigo Duterte has declared martial law in Marawi on Mindanao island after a Muslim militant group took control of parts of the city last week. Marawi is reported to be devastated by fighting, with more than 100 civilians killed and 85,000 residents forced to flee to evacuation centres. Dr Steven Rood is Distinguished Visitor at the Australian National University's College of Asia and the Pacific. Formerly the Asia Foundation's country representative for the Philippines and Pacific Island Nations, Steven Rood is the author of a number of works on Filipino politics.
