The Secret Life of Love Songs

From The Secret Life Of, 4:00 pm on 14 February 2015

Tami Neilson
Tami Neilson.

Why are good love songs so difficult to write?

Is there such a thing as a pure, untainted love song that won't leave some cringing?

Or is Nick Cave right when he says, "A love song is never truly happy. It must first embrace the potential for pain?"

No longer heartbroken, but pained at how difficult it is to write love songs, Tonnon approached some of our most esteemed songwriters, on beaches, in studios and across Skype lines to get to the truth behind the perfect love song.

This Valentine's Day, Anthonie Tonnon talks with Tami Neilson, Tom Scott, Anika Moa and Great North's Hayden Donnell about committing love to tape.
