Major S. Forbes explains the functions and duties of the Division’s Petrol Company. The petrol company is fully mechanised and is subdivided into smaller groups for distribution and control. It is normally sighted to the rear of forward fighting troops. Desert warfare and aerial activity make cover difficult. The whole company requires a mile square to safely disperse. After delivery of petrol and oil to forward areas the drivers have to return to their own area some 40 miles distant. To maintain a daily supply of petrol the company's vehicles had to be maintained to a high order. Petrol supplies had to be replaced from a source of supply. The NZ Divisional Petrol Company had served in Greece, Crete and the Western Desert.

Te ope Tuatahi a recruiting song for the Maori Pioneer Battalion of WW1. It speaks of the origins of the men of the contingents and the places they fell in the war. I Runga o Nga Puke was written in 1915 by Ngahiwi Petiha at the reqest of a homesick soldier who wrote from hospital in England asking for a song to remind him of home.
