Battered Women's Trust

Living with fear and anxiety becomes ingrained in the psyches of those living with domestic violence, and the possibility of escape can often seem remote and futile.

Lois Herbert (left) is the Manager of The Battered Women's Trust in Christchurch. She's passionate about her role and the challenges that come with it. For her, helping to rebuild the lives of the families that come through the refuge is a heartwarming experience.

She takes producer Sonia Yee through the process of what the trust does for the women and children that come through the refuge. A trip to a safe house brings with it an unexpected glimpse of hope and affection. A meeting with a young woman who has experienced domestic violence provides an insight into what it takes to move forward and never look back.
