Waiheke Island Artist In Residence Mark Surridge

The GPS routes recorded while he explored Waiheke Island on foot have found their way into the abstract paintings of Artist in Residence Mark Surridge. Mark's a British artist invited to Waiheke by the Island's Community Art Gallery, and he's about to exhibit most of the 50 or so works he's created there since May. Locals have already had the chance to look at Mark Surridge in action working on his often large-scale, brightly coloured paintings. Lynn Freeman asked Mark about using GPS in his art: The Shape of the Walk opens at The Waiheke Art Gallery on August the 10th.
