First in Tunisia and then Egypt, movements, led in the main by the young, have demanded an end to dictatorship and the introduction of democracy. Ideas talks to Mohsen al Attar, an Egyptian who lectures in law at the University of Auckland and Mohamed Ali Jaballah, a Tunisian studying in New Zealand, about the protest movements in their homelands; and hears from long-time democracy activist Mustafa Barghouti about the Palestinian reaction to the unfolding events.
