The Victoria University First Light eco-house project has been selected as one of 20 university teams to compete in the US Department of Energy Solar Decathlon 2011 - the only entry from the Southern Hemisphere to ever have won a place in the prestigious competition. One of the project leaders, architecture graduate Nick Officer, talks to Chris about the challenge to demonstrate the latest in technology and design by building solar-powered houses that feature cost-effective, energy-efficient construction and incorporate energy-saving appliances and renewable energy systems.
