Insight looks at communes, as they were known in the 1970s, a lifestyle associated with hippies and ramshackle retreats in remote valleys, where conventional society was rejected. Forty years on, some of those communities are still thriving, but the way of living is less flower power and more eco-themed, rural living for the middle class in old-fashioned village ways.
Geoff Moffett has visited the Tasman countryside to explore the new style of communal living.

Chris talks to political scientist and devout follower of US politics Dr Jon Johansson about the battle between the establishment candidate, Mitt Romney, and the insurgent, Newt Gingrich, for the US Republican Party’s presidential nomination, and whether or not President Obama has delivered enough to be re-elected.

9:40 David Geary – Haiku in Canada
New Zealander David Geary has written for theatre, film and television, as well as fiction and poetry. These days he lives in Vancouver where his main job is raising two young children. He tells Chris that he doesn’t have much time to write, so the traditional Japanese form of Haiku – small but perfectly-formed poems – suit him well. David shares some of his Haiku, and talks about life in Canada. He tweets his poetry.

Between 1960 and 1990, strong winds of political change swept across Pacific countries. Broadcaster Ian Johnstone has captured this change in a series of interviews with Pacific leaders which he presents with his co-editor Michael Powles in a series called New Flags Flying. Sunday Morning will feature highlights from the series on the last Sunday of each month during 2012. This week, Ian and Michael join Chris for an overview of the period in the Pacific when colonies became nations and millions of ‘subjects’ became citizens.
