In 2003, when he was in his late forties, Ranga Tuhi traded in his wood chisel for a computer mouse and re-entered the education system starting a graphic design degree at Massey University with five other Māori students. In May he graduates, the sole survivor of the five and the current cover boy for the degree. Tuhi is with Justine Murray at the Massey University Māori alumni evening talking about the all important whānau support and how his carving skills allowed him to present a gift to the university.

Adopting preventative measures when it comes to fire safety, all with the aim of averting a potential tragedy, is a message Piki Thomas no Ngāti Pikiao, Ngāti Whakaue, has hammered home for the past 11 years as He Pou Herenga, the National Māori Advisor for the New Zealand Fire Service. In a recording from 1998, Piki Thomas talks about what was then a new position and his means of breaking down barriers both within the service and the Māori community. Henare te Ua is interviewing.
