It's a big river indeed that cannot be crossed

Take one extreme sports event, give it a Māori makeover and you have the Maui Challenge. Ngāti Kahungunu health services, who modelled their event on the Tough Guy challenge, created obstacles based on the many stories of Maui-tikitiki-a-Taranga making the event - a first for Aotearoa - more relevant to Māori. Maraea Rakuraku was at the inaugural event in Waimarama in Hawkes Bay to see how it turned out. (Part two plays next week)

A series of ads following Angela Wallace as she kicks a 25-year-long smoking habit is screening on television at the moment. She explains to Maraea Rakuraku how a combination of whānau pressure, personal goal setting and fears for her wellbeing eventually led to her replacing nicotine dependency with better health choices.
