3 o Hongongoi 2011

“Matariki ki runga, Te whanganui a tara ki raro,
Te Aro pa ki uta, pouhere taonga pouhere tangata.”

Down on the shore is Te Aro Pa with the people, the most important of all.

This theme of Te Wiki o te reo Māori (3-10 July 2011) is manaakitanga and in this week's edition of Te Ahi Kaa we present versions of it in action.  Counsellor Chris Karaitiana does it by assisting whānau Māori to create violence-free lifestyles.  Justine Murray and Pākeha botanist Jenny Hickman reciprocate it during a garden tour, and a trio of sisters from Whanganui aged in their 70’s, are evidence of an investment made two generations ago by their old people.
