In Te Ahi Kaa this week we feature the documentary Remembering Makareti produced by Paul Diamond.

Born Margaret (Makareti) Thom (1873 – 1930) she was also known as Maggie Papakura, the famous guide at the Whakarewarewa village who was raised in the rural town of Parekarangi by Marara Marotaua and Maihi Te Kakau Paroa.

In this 51 minute radio biography you’ll hear the story of her extraordinary life including her upbringing, stories from those who remember her as Guide Maggie and her time in Oxford as an academic.
