Whirimako Black is stepping out from the singing stage to the movie screen in her debut as Paraiti in the movie, Tuakiri Huna – White Lies.  Filmed in and around Te Urewera, the movie is based on the Witi Ihimaera novel Medicine Woman, and directed by Dana Rotberg. Maraea Rakuraku chats with Whirimako about her first foray into film.

Like Whirimako Black, Ngāti Pōrou, Ngāpuhi Claudette Hauiti is adding another string to her bow. By stepping away from behind the cameras and her role as a successful TV producer, and starting a new career as a politician, in a seat vacated by former National Party MP Aaron Gilmore.  On the party list behind Paul Quinn (who declined the seat) Hauiti was sworn into Parliament on 29 May, 2013 and made her maiden speech on the 12 June, 2013.

Musician Rob Thorne nō Ngati Timutimu (pictured below) is in Peru sharing tāonga pūoro with the indigenous cultures of South America in a trip made possible through an online crowd funding website. Tāonga pūoro has played a major role in his life for the past 10 years as a learner, craftsman and teacher. Justine Murray sits with him and learns more.
