Lawyers for the Waitangi Tribunal say it does not have to tell the Crown how much land to give back to claimants. The Crown is rejecting allegations it witheld highly relevant and crucial reports about the Rena from the Waitangi Tribunal. A kuia from Parihaka, which was invaded by colonial troops in 1881, wants more of its descendants to tell the story of the settlement's past. A Maori carved totem pole created by inmates has been unveiled at Waikeria Prison near Te Awamutu, and has been helping the men to get their lives back on the right track.
