MPs share personal stories in maiden speeches

From The House , 7:31 am on 19 November 2017

New MPs are using their maiden speeches to dispel the myth that politicians are removed from everyday life.

Thirty-two MPs will give a maiden speech which is their first chance to speak in the House; it can be a mix of personal history, hopes for the future and a little bit of humour.

But it’s also an opportunity to rebut the stereotype that politicians are removed from everyday experience and share what motivates them.
