The Sami Sisters
The Sami Sisters have charmed and amused audiences with their close harmonies and candid wit over the last four years. Up until this March they’d usually performed as an acoustic trio but now they’ve got a band and a debut album. Nick Atkinson has charted the bands plugged-in progress, beginning with their first show as a five piece earlier in the Year.
Other Side of the World
People In Your Neighbourhood is an annual series of events which sees a range of musicians from the UK collaborate with musicians from New Zealand through a variety of workshops and projects, through a musical initiative run by the British Council. New Zealand’s British Council representative is Kiwi musical entrepreneur Gareth Farry. This year he introduced a project known as Other Side of the World, where selected young musicians are based at Red Bull Studios in Auckland to collaborate with young musicians based at the Roundhouse centre in London, via the internet. Lydia Jenkin found the studios humming with music and conversation as the group assesses the tracks which have been sent across from London earlier in the evening.
Cut Off Your Hands in session
Nick Johnston and Brent Harris from Cut Off Your Hands were recently recorded live in Radio New Zealand’s Auckland studios performing tracks from their upcoming second album Hollow.
