From The Panel, 4:33 pm on 1 December 2014

Topics - the Sydney Morning Herald's just run a piece about the ongoing demise of traditional broadcasters like the ABC, and Channels 7,9 and 10 in Australia. Once they were printing money, now they struggle mightily to attract the young or even the young-ish. The Auckland Council is going to adopt the Maori calendar for tree planting. A researcher and adviser to the council, Rereata Makiha, says the aim is to help whanau, hapu and iwi and councils choose the right days to plant, go fishing, hold hui and live more in accordance with nature. A Hawke's Bay Muslim has formed a local branch of Islamic State. He is calling on the souljahs of Allah to make their way to Hastings and join him. Te Amorangi Kireka-Whaanga heads the Aotearoa Maori Muslim Association and was once named one of the 500 most influential Muslims in the world. They may have been aiming for geographical spread with that one. Anyway we might not have heard this call except that it has been heard by Hastings Mayor Lawrence Yule, who says Mr Kireka-Whaanga's Facebook posts are "very concerning".
