Should previous salaries be accessible knowledge for employers?

From The Panel, 4:57 pm on 24 October 2017

California employers can no longer ask job applicants about their prior salary, and they must provide them with a pay range for the job being advertised.

The law is called AB168 and it applies to all public- and private-sector California employers of any size.

The idea is to narrow the gender wage gap. If a woman is paid less than a man doing the same job and a new employer bases her pay on her prior salary, gender discrimination is perpetuated.
