The Panel with Julia Hartley Moore and David Slack (Part 1)

From The Panel, 4:03 pm on 19 June 2018

The Dominion Post written a rather scathing review of the government's latest slip ups, saying it must find it feet and quickly. The panelists give their views on this assement and the latest problems plaguing the government. Political commentator Richard Harman from Politik joins the show to discuss whether the latest wage and pay disputes can be blamed on the current government, and whether sliding business confidence could be an issue for the economy. The Government has declined an application to provide access to an open-cast mine in the Mt Rochfort Conservation Area, on the South Island's West Coast. Simon Bridges says its scrubland. Meanwhile we discuss the fallout over Eugenie Sage's decision not to veto a Chinese water bottling company's expanse near Whakatane. We continue the discussion from yesterday about Australian states looking to require Roman Catholic priests to tell police about sex crimes that are confessed to them. Many in the church have made it clear they won't abide by the rules and break their sacred oath, even if charged a fine. We clarify what the rules are now regarding obligations to tell polcie about crimes and ask the panelists where they stand on this issue.
