The Panel with Bernard Hickey and Lisa Scott (Part 2)

From The Panel, 4:05 pm on 20 June 2018

Florida rapper XXXtentacion was shot and killed in an apparent robbery a few days ago. The 20-year-old gained notoriety for his music and also his alleged crimes; he was charged aggravated battery of ex-girlfriend this year. The controversy saw the rapper dropped from his record label and banned from Spotify but he still had legions of, mostly young, fans. Music reviewer Kate Robertson explains why he was so popular with teens. What the Panelists Bernard Hickey and Lisa Scott want to talk about. Two people were stabbed during an armed robbery at an Auckland dairy last night. One person is still fighting for their life and the other is stable at Auckland hospital. The offenders are yet to be caught. The president of the Crime Prevention Group, Sunny Kaushal, joins the show to discuss why these robberies are still occuring after so many attempts to stop them. Since the implementation of Christy's Law, a tightening of bail in the country, more than 1000 extra people are being held in jail than granted bail. We ask the panelists, particularly in light of this latest dairy stabbing, whether they prefer to see more people kept inside jail or not.
