The Panel with Peter Fa'afiu and Jacquie Nairn (Part 2)

From The Panel, 4:05 pm on 3 December 2018

A poll has found the happiest place to live in Britain is the seaside town of Leigh, an hour out of London. The poll looked at 12 happiness factors including community spirit, safety and cultural activities. We ask the panelists what priorities they have for where they live and whether they see the value in smaller places. What the panellists Peter Fa'afiu and Jacquie Nairn want to talk about. Christmas is fast apporaching and advertisements and parades are in full force. In the UK an ad for BBC calls for people to send more time together. Meanwhile here in New Zealand, Nelson's Sanata Parade has embraced biculturalism with the traditional santa suit ditched for a red korowai worn by Robert Herewini. The organisers feel santa as an old man with a white beard is a bit out of date now. Not everyone is happy with the portrayal. We see what the panelists think. In a new book, Pope Francis says actively gay priests should quit rather than live a double life while those with homosexual tendancies shouldn't be admitted to the clergy. These are the clearest comments he's made suggesting priests who can't commit to celibacy vows should leave. We ask the panelists what they think of the comments. More NCEA exam subjects will be online next year. NZQA announced today they expect to offer 14 exams, around a third of the overall total, online in 2019. Further subjects will follow in the next few years. Paper will still be used in the transition. Andrea Gray, Deputy Chief Executive of the Digital Assessment Transformation at NZQA tells us more about the change. Actor Samuel Johnson, star of the TV drama 'The Secret Life of Us', says movies and television have become a blandfest. He's calling for more ordinary-looking actors, more ugly people in showbiz. Is he right? We ask the panelists if they'd like to see more diversity in terms of looks on our screens.
