The Panel with Niki Bezzant and Sanjay Kumarasingham (Part 1)

From The Panel, 4:03 pm on 6 December 2018

The Employment Relations Amendment Act has passed its third reading. The act will restore meal and rest breaks for workers, collective bargaining and union rights, protections for "vulnerable workers", and the curtailing of 90-day trials. The opposition says it will choke economic growth. The panelists discuss. We revisit the topic of Auckland school St Kentigern's College having players outside the city in its First XV team. All Black Reiko Ioane says players should appreciate the challenge. We ask the panelists whether this is a chance for young men to get a scholarship to a great school that might otherwise not get, or merely the college trying to win. A research project called "NZ Youth and Porn" has found more than two-thirds of Kiwi teenagers have been exposed to pornography, and one in four have seen it by the age of 12. Young people themselves think porn is easy to access. Does that mean we need to restrict it? Director of The Light Project Nikki Denholm joins The Panel to discuss what can be done. We've been airing complaints about what couriers charge, and the service they offer - or don't - to people who live even slightly out of town. We've had a huge amount of feedback on the subject from those living at rural addresses. Jessica Wilson, Head of Research at Consumer NZ, explains whether there is anyway to regulate or apply oversight to the courier industry.
