The Panel with Verity Johnson and Michael Moynahan (Part 2)

From The Panel, 4:05 pm on 19 February 2019

This week is GO Week or Get Outdoors Week. It's all about appreciating nature. One man who's seen a lot more of New Zealand than most of us - and on foot - is Bruce Hopkins. Bruce appeared in the RNZ series The Long Walk and tells us about the highlights of his walk of the length of the country. Question of the day: where is one place in NZ that you have explored that you would recommend to others? Is your front lawn a symbol of your middle-classness? What actual purpose do they serve? They suck up a lot of water and chemicals, in the form of fertilizer and weedkiller. They offer no food for bees or people. The US President Donald Trump says the countries where IS fighters originated should be the ones to take them back from Syria and deal with them. International law expert Alexander Gillespie discusses the legal requirements from the countries where the jihadis come from. Then there are the women who fled their homelands to marry these men. What will become of them? Te Papa has indicated it's getting rid of two of its scientists. Bruce Marshall is a mollusc expert and Andrew Stewart is a fish expert. They have 80 years combined experience. There's been an outcry from some overseas scientists at the news. Now the museum is having a re-think. Is Te Papa having an identity crisis?
