Are you a “banana”? What is a “banana” anyway? And what about “eggs”? Renee Liang’s play Lantern explores one family’s dysfunctional struggle with their cultural identity. Jen and Ken are supposed to be model Chinese New Zealanders, but they’re not and their parents Rose and Henry have enough problems of their own. Renee Liang’s latest play is a humorous and touching two-hander performed by P.A.T. (Pretty Asian Theatre) duo Chye-Ling Huang and James Roque. Lynda catches up with the cast before a show at the Musgrove Theatre, Auckland University during their highly successful season at the Lantern Festival, 2014.
