Time banking founder Edgar Cahn visits New Zealand

8:06 am on 5 September 2015

New Zealand's first time bank is celebrating its 10th anniversary this week, and the residents of Lyttelton say it has played an important role in strengthening their community.

Time-banking participants spend one hour of their time doing something for someone else to gain a one-hour time credit, which they can then spend on having something done for them.

The Lyttelton Harbour Time Bank has grown to almost 700 members, and exchanges more than 2000 hours of people's time each month.

Time banking founder Edgar Cahn has travelled from the USto join the celebrations, and will be speaking with Kim Hill at 9.35am today on Radio New Zealand National.
